Nashorn: Maggots to devour the world
23/01/13 || Pr0nogo
This three-track, nineteen minute demo from the German death/doom band Nashorn (which, coincidentally, means “Rhinoceros” (which, coincidentally, is my favourite word in the English language besides FUCK and COCKMONGLER)) doesn’t offer much that’ll get your attention, but what is there is solid enough to warrant an “Eh… it’s okay” from me. I originally wasn’t much of a fan of the vocals, but despite the fact that they grew on me, the production on them is horrendous. The disgusting fuzzy effect on the vocals detracts from an otherwise solid performance, and while their instrumentation can be very fun to listen to when it picks up speed, the doomier and gloomier portions of Nashorn’s sound are beyond boring.
Some say that it’s not necessary to give it your all when you’re only releasing short shit like this, but I’m quite the opposite; garbage filler is garbage filler no matter how long your release is, but a shorter record has even less time to impress me than a longer one does. As inexcusable as their boring parts are, they do a decent job. Maybe they should drop their doom structuring for all but song intros and stick to not sucking with their high-octane performances.
4 space rhinos from the fiery depths of Satan’s cock out of 10.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
